 How to Setup Your Email Account

Configuring your E-mail Client Software

E-mail (electronic mail) is what allows you to send and receive messages over the Internet. The power of every e-mail program varies, but the underlying jobs are still the same: compose, send, and retrieve.

For your convenience, we have provided several basic walkthroughs for some of the more common e-mail programs.

Outlook Express v5.0 and later

Setting Up Your E-mail

The following instructions cover typical usage of Outlook Express and assume the software has been installed correctly on your system.

The instructions are only for individuals with a direct Internet connection, by modem or network. If you are behind a firewall or proxy server, the information below may not work. Consult your network administrator for more information.


  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. Click Tools on the menu bar.
  3. Click Accounts in the Tools menu.

  4. Click Add.
  5. Click Mail in the Internet Accounts box.



  6. The Account Wizard will guide you from this point. Throughout the process, you will be prompted for the following information:

    E-mail address: _______@yourdomian.com
    Type of mail server: pop3
    Incoming mail server (pop): yourdomain.com
    Outgoing mail server (smtp): yourdomain.com*
    POP account name: your user id
    Password: your password

  • Click FINISHED on the Internet Accounts box when you have completed the Internet Connection Wizard.

    * Some Internet Service Providers (ISP) do not allow third party SMTP outgoing email servers, therefore, you must use the SMTP outgoing server information provided by your ISP. Please contact your ISP for further information.

    Setting Up Your E-mail

    The following instructions cover typical usage of Outlook and assume the software has been installed correctly on your system.

    The instructions are only for individuals with a direct Internet connection, by modem or network. If you are behind a firewall or proxy server, the information below may not work. Consult your network administrator for more information.


    Outlook 2000

    1. Open Outlook.
    2. Click Tools on the menu bar.
    3. Click Accounts in the Tools menu.

    4. Click Add.
    5. Click Mail in the Internet Accounts box.

    6. Complete the following fields in the Internet Connection Wizard window:
    7. Display Name - The name that will display on an e-mail sent using this profile.
    8. E-mail Address - The e-mail address that will display on an e-mail sent using this profile.
    9. Incoming Mail Server - The mail server from which e-mail for this profile is to be retrieved. For Creative Web Ventures servers use "(your domain name).com". (For example "yourdomain.com)
    10. Outgoing Mail Server - The mail server through which e-mail sent using this profile will go. You may use your Creative Web Ventures mail server, which is the same as your incoming mail server, or you may use your ISP's outgoing mail server.
    11. Account Name - Your user name.
    12. Password - The password for the above account.
    13. Connect Method - Select the method you use to connect to the Internet.
    14. Click FINISHED on the Internet Accounts box when you have completed the Internet Connection Wizard.

    With Outlook, you can setup additional mail accounts for every mailbox from which you need to retrieve mail.
